Ólafur Arnalds - Ekki Hugsa 360°
An immersive audiovisual experience with soothing music by award winning composer Ólafur Arnalds and mesmerizing visuals by designer Torsten Posselt.
World-renowned Icelandic composer and multi-instrumentalist Ólafur Arnalds and Berlin-based designer Torsten Posselt join forces for a transcendental, audiovisual planetarium performance. The pair aims to offer an antidote to today’s hectic world. 'Ekki hugsa' is Icelandic for 'don't think', a message that reached Arnalds right when he needed it most: ‘A few years ago, I was going through a bad patch in life, suffering from anxiety. One evening, friends took me to an interactive theatre performance to take my mind off things. During the performance one of the actors looked at me, hurriedly scribbled something on a piece of paper and handed it to me. The message read: “Ekki hugsa”! That moment has inspired most of my work in the past few years.’
The first show screenings on the European continent since its premiere at ReeperbahnFestival, Hamburg in 2019.
For that reason, Arnalds and Posselt have no intention to create a bombastic spectacle of a performance; instead, they invite the audience to step back as they create a meditative journey that allows everyone to simply be present in the moment. ‘Ekki Hugsa is a journey into non-thinking.’ says Posselt. Musically, Arnalds elaborates on the techniques he used on his most recent album re:member (2018). To this end, he developed software where two self-playing pianos respond to a third piano, played by Arnalds himself. This results in otherworldly aural textures, which flow beautifully with Posselt's mesmerising 360° images.
Lean back in your chair, feast your ears and eyes, and let go: 'Ekki hugsa!'

Questions about accessibility.
- Extra tickets might be made available once the festival has started, depending on the specific setup of the venue. Keep an eye on our website and socials.
- If a show is sold out, you can also try the evening waiting list. On the evening of shows, there are sometimes empty seats (when people don't show up unexpectedly, for instance). We try to fill these with 'laissez-passers', a last-minute ticket. If you want us to put you on that waiting list, please drop by the Dome Reception from 19:00 onwards on the evening of the show. A ticket is not guaranteed, but it's worth the try!
