THE HUMAN GENOME’S 20TH ANNIVERSARY – THE GENETICS BIG BANG
Two decades ago, 99% of the human genome was unravelled, the product of years of research and a big bang for the field of human genetics.
The Centre for Human Genetics (KU Leuven-UZ Leuven) sees children with rare genetic disorders as exceptional, in the most positive sense of the word. Day in and day out, our mission is to improve our understanding of how these rare conditions originate. It’s our contribution to giving these kids – and their parents – an even better shot at living full lives and growing into adults with their own unique talents and abilities.
The Universitair Harmonieorkest (UHO) has set the standard in Leuven’s cultural landscape since 1979. Over time, the UHO has developed into a fully-fledged Hafabra orchestra that puts ‘Art and Friendship’ first.
Today, the UHO comprises close to a hundred students, alumni, and KU Leuven and UC Leuven-Limburg staff. Directed by Erwin Scheltjens, they practice their hearts out in anticipation of the musical year’s select top events. For some time now, the end of the first semester has been the first highlight when UHO assembles to perform a concert for a good cause. The Exceptional Kids Foundation made the cut this year.
