10000 Peacock Feathers in Foaming Acid
William Basinski / Evelina Domnitch & Dmitry Gelfand
American ambient composer William Basinski is a living legend; his 2002 work The Disintegration Loops is considered a milestone in contemporary avant-garde music. Last year, he also released the fragile album Lamentations. Joined by Russian artist duo Evelina Domnitch and Dmitry Gelfand, Basinski creates an immersive performance with laser light and sound, specially designed for domes. Coloured lasers scan the surface of soap bubbles that mesmerizingly shrink and swell, magnifying their molecular composition and movement on the surface of the dome. Zoomed in like this, the behaviour of bubbles is reminiscent of the dynamics of living cells, the fundamental component of all known life. ‘10,000 Peacock Feathers in Foaming Acid’ is Basinski, Domnitch, and Gelfand’s poetic insight into the early origins of life in our universe.
